Newsflash! As per an Announcement made by ICAI, due to forthcoming elections which are likely to be held in April-May 2009, the Institute has decided to hold the examinations PE-II/PCE/Final etc. tentatively from 1st to 15th June 2009 instead of May 2009. It is also said that the next CPT examination in paper and pencil mode is likely to be held on 28th June 2009. For exact dates of the examinations, students are requested to wait for the Institute's detailed Examination Notification.

Newsflash! Those CA students who have passed CPT and are not so far got registered for articles are eligible to join the new Integrated Professional Competence Course. Students intending to choose the new course should  get registered before 31st Jan. 2009. Only then they will be eligible to sit for the first IPCE in November, 2009. 

 

Newsflash! Results of CA Final and CPT (Paper Pencil Mode) examinations held in Nov / Dec 2008 are likely to be declared on Friday the 16th of Jan.2009. Results will be available in the website www.caresults.nic.in. It is learnt that the results will be  provided through e-mail for those students who register their request (from 12.1.09) at the above website. Facilities have been made to know the results on SMS also through MTNL, India Times and Reliance. CPT (Online Mode) examination results will be available in the website http://icaiexam.icai.org. Students can check their results using their online ID and password.

CA students who have passed either PE-II or Intermediate Examination and has completed the article training are now eligible for grant of Accounting Technician Certificate. Eligible students are requested to make an  application to the Institute. Newsflash! CA Institute has decided to conduct CPT December 2008 examination Online, on experimental basis in selected centers in English medium only. This is in addition to the Paper - Pencil mode examination. The Online examination is scheduled to be held on 7.12.'08. Newsflash! As per an announcement made by the CA Institute, CPT Examinations will be conducted only twice in a year (June and December) instead of four times. Accordingly next CPT Examination will be conducted on 8th June 2008. Examination application forms will be made available from 4.4.08 and the last date for submission of applications is 25.4.08. To be eligible, a student should have registerd for the course with the Institute before 1.4.08.

ICAI has notified that the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) held on 5th August 2007 all over India and abroad stands cancelled due to leakage of the question paper. 

The exam will be held again on Sunday, the 26th August 2007 at all Centres in India and also at Abu Dhabi and Kathmandu abroad where the Test was held on 5th August 2007. The Morning Session from 9.00 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. (IST) and Afternoon Session from 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. (IST).

The off-campus study centres run in Tamil Nadu, India, by ICFAI(Society) based in Hyderabad and ICFAI University based in Dehradun,have been declared illegal by a recent  ruling of Madras High Court. Students undergoing courses in such study centres will have to face lot of difficulties.

The University has now started special MBA and M.Com courses. Qualified Chartered Accountants are given exemption in eight and nine papers respectively for MBA and M.Com courses. ICWAI has launched course on Certificate in Accounting Technicians on 9th Jan 2009 to address the heavy demand of trained accountants at junior level in India. 

 

A  New Scheme of Education and Training Known as Integrated Professional Competence Course (IPCC), is introduced by CA Institute. Under the new scheme:-

To become a Chartered Accounatnt:-
After CPT, IPCC level requires, successful completion of  9 months Study Course; successful completion of Information Technology Training (ITT) and passing either or both of Groups 1 and 2 of Integrated Professional Competence Examination. The next level requires, Articled Assistantship for three years; passing Group 1 and 2 of IPCC Final Examination and successful completion of a Course on General Management and Communication Skills.

To become an Accounting Technician :-
After CPT, Accounting Technician Course (ATC) requires, successful completion of 9 months Study Course; successful completion of 35 hours special Orientation Course; successful completion of Information Technology Training (ITT); passing Group 1 of Integrated Professional Competence Examination and  one year work experience under a Chartered Accountant in practice or in industry.

An Accounting Technician to become a Chartered Accountant:-
After ATC, the next level requires, three years Articled Assistantship; passing Group 2 of IPCE; passing both Groups of IPCC Final Examination and successful completion of the Course on General Management and Communication Skills. For detailed transitional provisions visit www.icai.org.

 

Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has signed a MOU with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales(ICAEW). The MOU will establish closer working linkages and will provide recognition for members of the two bodies in the respective countries and will facilitate mobility of members across the borders. The arrangement provides that ICAI members with two yearsand more of post qualification experience, will be eligible for ICAEW membership on passing ICAEW's one paper on Case Study. ICAI members with less than two years of experience will be required to pass three papers, CaseStudy, Techinical Integration- Business change, and Technical Integration-Business Reporting. CA students can now be happy, that they will have a breathing gap in between examinations. From the Presidents Message, it is understood that CA Institute proposes to conduct examinations on alternate days, to make the examinations less stressful to students. Possibly this will take effect from November 2008 examination itself. 

 

Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India and IGNOU have signed a Memorandum Of Understanding. IGNOU has planned to start special B.Com (Financial & Cost Accounting) and special M.Com (Management Accounting and Financial strategies). ICWA Foundation students can simaltaneously do Special B.Com and ICWA Intermediate students can simaltaneously do Special M.Com.

 

Netaji Subhas Open University is now offering a special B.Com course exclusively for students persuing CA.  Minimum eligibility requirement to join the course is a pass in 10+2 Examination or its equivalent, and having passed CPT examination of CA Institute, registered for Professional Competency Course. Course duration is three years. ICAI has decided to launch a new Accounting

Practising Company Secretaries can advertise their services from 1.1.'08. CAs and Cost Accountants will have to wait till April to get the freedom to advertise their services. 

 

The Board of Studies of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, it is understood, has withdrawn accreditation given to private Computer Training Institutes  to impart 100 hrs Information Technology Training to CA students with effect from 1.12.'07. Students are now requested to undergo 100 hours ITT  in the accredited ICAI Branch Computer Centres only. The list of the Centres is hosted in the Institute's website www.icai.org.

 

It is learnt from an announcement made by the Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India, that the Institute is hosting the First Global Summit of Management Accounting in NewDelhi on 10th,11th,and 12th of Jannuary 2008. The Summit is co-hosted by the CMA bodies of Pakisthan, Bangladesh and Srilanka. Dr. Robert Kaplan will deliver the key note address. Eminent personalities like Dr. M.B. Athreya, Gary cokins, the heads of professional bodies from UK, USA and Canada will chair and address the sessions. Interested Members can contact Sri. A.N. IGNOU has released an advertisement on the special commerce cources B.Com (Accountancy and
Finance) and M.Com (Finance and Taxation) started exclusively for CA students. Students who want
to join can get the prospectus and application form from IGNOU Regional Centres from 1st August '07 onwards. The prospectus is priced at Rs. 400. The form can also be downloaded from their website 
www.ignou.ac.in. Filled in applications can be submitted to any of the Regional offices of IGNOU. Last date for submission of filled in application, without late fee is 31st August '07 and with late fee of Rs.200 is 15th September '07.

 As a measure of brand building, Chartered Accountants are now permitted to use, a Logo designed by the Institute, in their visiting cards, letter heads, car stickers etc.

 

Are you a "Company Secretary", a member of ICSI? Now you may prefix "CS" before your name to distinguish yourself from members of other profession.

 

Students who have written the 10+2 or other qualifying examination and awaiting results can also join ICWA Foundation course opting for provisional registration,avoiding loss of time. Such candidates have to produce evidence of having passed the said examination with in a period of three months.

CA Institute has made arrangements to supply CPT study materials including CDs through selected Branches of the Institute.

 

100 hrs Information Technology training is to be undergone by CA students pursuing the PCC cource, after completion of 3 months of the articled training. It is part of the training programme. Prior permission is to be obtained from the principal to join the programme.

Registration to Company Secretaries (CS) Foundation Course is open all year. Students with 10+2 Pass or Equivalent Examination in Arts/Commerce/Science/any discipline can pursue the Company Secretaryship Foundation Course. Fine Arts students may not qualify. Those seeking registration will be eligible for examination in June, 2008. The cut off admission date is 30th September, 2007.

 

CA Institute has amended the Chartered Accountant Regulations 1988 to increase the eligibity of Chartered Accountants to engage and train more number of Articled Assistants. Now a Chartered Accountant in full time practice for more than 10 years can engage and train 10 Articled Assistants.

Indira Gandhi Open University and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. It is understood that IGNOU will launch specialized B.Com and M.Com degree courses for chartered accountant students. CA students who opt to pursue such degree courses, it is learnt, will be allowed exemptions in selected papers.
